The schooner Daniel Pierson under Captain Harris from Boston to New York collided with the Providence built schooner Onrust commanded by Captain Reed off Stratford. Pierson lost bowsprit windlass and fore rigging while Onrust lost foremast head gear. Pierson towed to New Haven breakwater. Onrust towed to the dock after signaling for a tug.
In Augusta on May 26 Republicans chose delegates to the state convention instructing them to back J. R. Rodwell for governor and Seth L. Milliken for Congress. Legislative caucuses reported from 77 towns show 234 delegates favor Rodwell and 62 favor Hamlin for the nomination.
A Milford branch late train, about a mile from Braggville, was struck by two bullets that pierced a window and exited the car. A lady passenger narrowly escaped injury as the projectiles passed within inches of her head.
