Former President arrived in Princeton New Jersey at 6 25 pm on May 24. He traveled alone with a small grip and wore a negligee shirt and a stout hat, walking to his home after a ball game left his wife away. He appeared in good health.
John A. Myers was attacked on Johnson Street in Lynn as he headed home. An unknown man attempted a robbery but Myers screamed for help. The assailant struck Myers twice, grabbed for his watch chain, and throttled him before fleeing as neighbors arrived.
The home of W H Hardy at 34 Goylston terrace Jamaica Plain was entered yesterday afternoon by key nippers. A man seen near the house all morning carried off a 32 calibre revolver an alligator skin bag 14 silver tea spoons and other valuables including a diamond ring and a gold chain. He is described as about 25 years old 5 feet 7 inches tall with a smooth face in brown clothes and a brown soft hat.
Lawrence May 24 stockholders of the Boston and Maine railroad held a special meeting in Lawrence and voted to approve the purchase of the Hagiern railroad in New Hampshire. Lucius Tuttle presided and announced that there is no debt on the Eastern railroad.
General Lawton, south of Candaba, cites evidence at San Isidro of American prisoners from the Yorktown suffering outrages. A rescued officer relayed a recaptured escapee drugged and whipped, with hair pulled and pleas for rescue. Lawton notes 22 engagements, 6 killed, 35 wounded, 1090 prisoners taken. Civil government established at San Miguel Balinag and San Isidro. War Department plans to press the campaign through summer despite negotiations.
In Manila on May 24 General Funston again distinguished himself in a fight with rebels near Santa Anita north of San Fernando. MacArthur’s scouts were fired on and withdrew. Funston led a swift charge with the Montana and Kansas regiments dispersing the insurgents who numbered about 100. about twenty Americans were wounded.
Washington May 24 Following a rule from Manila Secretary Hay refused public release of President Schurmans report on Philippine negotiations. Reportedly it makes no reference to friction between civilian commission members and General Otis. Despatch tone is optimistic about Filipino commissioners accepting terms offered.
Police allege Frank Higlster stole three diamonds from Mrs Julia P French at 10 Newbury Street on February 6 valued at $1050. A $350 sparkler glittered on his finger when arrested, with two other diamonds recovered. He lodged with the Bro ack family at 118 Chestnut Avenue Jamaica Plain. The third diamond remains unfound.
May 24 dispatch: Major General Arthur MacArthur’s report, part of General Otis’s Philippines operations review, covers Feb 4 to Feb 28 and details Manila’s conditions. It assigns responsibility to insurgents and lauds American officers and enlisted men.
Manila May 24 Major Guison and Major Mapua two members of the Filipino general staff escaped through American lines and surrendered this morning. General Lawton's rear guard of Third and Twenty second Infantry escorting the signal corps from San Miguel to Balinaag suffered a running fight the whole distance. The Americans lost one man killed one officer and fourteen privates wounded. They captured twenty insurgents.
General Lawton with most troops arrives at Malolos after a 120 mile march in 20 days. He reports 422 fights, 28 towns captured, 300000 bushels of rice destroyed, 6 men killed and 3 wounded. He claims 4 insurgents killed and twice that wounded.
Col Henry Thomas Boston postmaster remains in improving condition at South Weymouth with note that his status has improved over the past days. No further details on the illness or care were provided as officials await further word.

The British Charitable Society in Boston celebrated its eighty third anniversary with an annual dinner at Copley Square. Lt. W. T. Sams in uniform made a brief appearance as the Queen’s portrait and a female orchestra provided music. The room observed the toast and singing of God Save the Queen as guests pledged best wishes.
At the Copley Square Hotel Boston 150 members of the British Charitable Society of Boston gathered for a toast to Queen Victoria. Rev Granville B Pitman led the toast as bunting and banners from Ireland and Scotland adorned the room alongside the Union Jack and American flags.
A note marks the eightieth anniversary of the birth of Queen Victoria observed in 1899. The item notes national homage and commemorative events reflected in public notices and era tributes.
