Money and Stocks Dull Market After Week’s Close
The week ends with no change in the local money market, rates around 5 percent, with some demand loans at 4 1 2 percent and time loans at 4 1 4 to 6 1 2 percent. New York funds sold at 15 to 20 cents per $1000 discount. New York bank reserves show a mixed picture, with a modest surplus above legal requirements. The stock market edged higher on a momentum move but profits and realizations kept gains modest, while crop reports supported a cautious tone. Industrial stocks face warnings from the New York Commercial Bulletin about speculative risk and lack of solid assets backing prices. Overall, markets reflect abundant money, steady rates, and selective investor activity.
