An advertisement extols The Grand Stand on the baseball grounds to be filled Friday and Saturday with an admiring audience. It celebrates equipment and moral reflection, praising players from ball to yacht events and inviting readers to send 25 cents for Kelly's new book Play Box and sport catalogs featuring samples and price lists.
The Pennsylvania State Democratic convention at Harnischura endorses President Cleveland and the Mills tariff bill with a harmonious slate led by William L. Scott. Delegates pledge unit votes for Cleveland, electors at large named, and a platform praising the administration, opposing Republican trusts, and calling for tariff revision and limits on foreign labor.
At the Academy of Fine Arts in Philadelphia Presbyterians of the South adjourned for the day and delegates gathered for a reception to President and Mrs Cleveland. The President and wife received an ovation as crowds passed by and he promised an early return to Washington. Mrs Cleveland will stay with Rev Wood's wife in Germantown then travel to New York on Friday.

The seat opened by Admiral Commerell’s vacancy, and the result prompted Gladstonian jubilation and talk of a Tory defeat linked to war scare fears. Evans will be welcomed home after his overseas canvass.
Illinois Democrats convened in Spring Field on May 23, electing delegates to St. Louis. New Year’s New Year 28 a.M. at the general Methodist Episcopal conference voting continued for bishop. Fifth ballot showed Dr I W Joyce winning 326 of 440. Dr D A Goodsell 286. Dr J P Newman 237. C H Payne 167. Earl Cranston 119. On seventh ballot 253 votes each for Newman and Goodsell, no winner. Repeating ballots alleged as two slips with same names cast as one.

Tim Campbell of New York says Irish American voters will back Cleveland and estimates Blaine could win 25,000 in New York if he runs. Campbell projects Cleveland's New York City margin at 65,000 to 75,000, with Brooklyn and Queens adding thousands. He contends Cleveland's statewide lead would exceed Republican hopes, aided by Tammany Hall and the County Democracy.

May 23 reporting that General Sheridan was seriously ill proved exaggerated at army headquarters. Colonel Sheridan said the general had nervous prostration but is now improving and not in danger, with the family not alarmed and signs of a speedy recovery evident.

A thirty member committee was formed to organize the Society of the Rights of Man and the Citizen.
New Bedford May 23 The annual meeting of Border City Manufacturing Company stockholders reported net earnings of 105 783 for year ending March 31 plus 86 205 depreciation and 96 000 dividends paid. President Brayton cited tax and wage totals to city and commonwealth and announced plans to erect a new mill and raise capital to 1 000 000 with 200 new shares. Directors elected include Brayton Holmes Brayton Bourne Beauvais Covel Woodward and Foster.
The New York Stock Exchange governing committee suspended Broker Walter L. Morris for one year for having business connections with the consolidated exchange. The committee also ordered the listing of Missouri Pacific trust bonds totaling 14,376,000 dollars.
