Fitzgerald May Be Governor Candidate In Minted Political Climate
State wide reaction followed reports that Mayor Fitzgerald may seek the Democratic nomination for Governor against Governor Foss. He met Westfield leader Dan Doherty and other Democrats, signaling expected civil service and police commissioner appointments in coming weeks. Foss called Fitzgerald an opportunist and faced pressure in Springfield and Westfield as party leaders weighed the effect on local appointments and a 54 hour bill. Foss plans to reappoint Commissioner O Meara and has floated Macleod for office, with June 5 as a key deadline.
