Corruption charges tied to the 1906 Chicago strike followed Shea, former International Brotherhood of Teamsters president, who sought Roosevelt's testimony. He was acquitted in 1907 as conflicts included maimed horses, non-support, and a Boston court case. His wife testified of hardship and his subsequent disappearance toward New York.

Chatham May 21 With the aid of an auto Mrs Nettie E Shaw wife of Senator James F Shaw today successfully dodged service of papers in her husbands suit for divorce and also carried away her son whom she has declared her intention of retaining in her possession Mrs Shaw was accompanied by her father H Fisher Eldredge the wealthy Portsmouth NH brewer and her whereabouts is now a mystery.
Senator Shaw filed for divorce claiming custody of his son Eldredge Fisher Shaw. He named H Keno Marble as a correspondent and alleged unfaithfulness. After discovery of no imminent custody transfer, Deputy Sheriff Mahony prepared to deliver the declaration, but Mrs Shaw fled with her father’s help. Eldredge ordered a sentinel on the estate as a car fled toward Boston.
Fire tonight destroyed the unoccupied 75 000 manor of George Otis Draper nephew of Governor Eben Draper and son of General William F Draper in Hopedale. Police consider incendiary origin while firefighters cite a faulty wire. A sudden blaze wrecked the mansion and curio collection worth another 75 000 was lost.
The unoccupied mansion was a shell when flames appeared and the cause could not be determined. Mr. Draper had sold the house to his aunt Mrs. Ezra L. Osgood, wife of ex Senator Osgood. Autos and carriages were moved, but priceless curios and treasures remaining in the barn are valued at $75,000 and cannot be replaced.
