The Boston Common Council overrode Mayor Hibbard's vetoes on a 65 000 loan for a South Boston courthouse 80 000 for a Charles Town combined courthouse and police station 15000 for a Brighton fire station and 25000 grants for playgrounds in Wards 7 12 and 16. Raymond J. Calnan ten living with his mother at 74 Franklin street East Somerville died at Somerville Hospital at 9 last night from injuries after being struck by a touring car owned by Mrs Caroline C C Gove of Fayette Street Salem and driven by Arthur J Russell of Simonds Street Salem Russell was jailed at Somerville police on assault and battery charge then bailed for five thousand dollars by Mrs Gove A more serious charge is expected when he appears in court witnesses say the boy veered toward the car and Russell tried to avoid the impact by mounting the curb
Mrs Addie Gwynn reports her fox terrier stolen from 269 Princeton Street East Boston and asks Boston Post to send a reporter to investigate. She praises reporters as bright and expects quick recovery of the dog.
Two burglars in Brookline fought a pistol duel with a police officer at 9 last night as they attempted to break into the home of Elson M. Blunt on Mason Terrace. They escaped after a volley of bullets. Patrolman John Thompson was struck by a bullet to the helmet. A neighborhood-wide alarm followed the sensational chase.
Police link two men to a month old home intrusion on T B Fitzpatrick and a recent Aspinwall Hill break. During pursuit on Mason Terrace and Beacon Street, shots were fired at patrolman Thompson whose hat was struck by a bullet three inches above his forehead as he led the chase.
The state Supreme Court refused to interfere with five Chinamen convicted of first degree murder over a year ago. The court overruled exceptions, and they now face execution in the electric chair at the State prison in Charles Town.

Hartford May 20 The New York New Haven and Hartford Express Company is incorporated with one million dollars capital stock half paid in. The charter to be sought from the Legislature would let it handle all express business of the New Haven steam and trolley lines, steamships and the Boston and Maine railroad. The move is seen as confirming that the New Haven road will not renew its contract with Adams Express Company.
Five attempts were made to wreck Boston and Maine trains within 200 yards of Cambridge station last night. Railroad detectives and Cambridge Somerville police pursued suspects along four tracks as four follow up attempts occurred near officers. Footprints in the ditch point to the method and clue for the detectives.
Detectives sought a suspect living nearby as a sabotage attempt blocked several trains. Shoes were sought to match ground impressions, with sleepers placed across tracks on a timetable aware plan. Engineer Fred Elwell halted the Roberts local at 7 20 after spotting the obstruction 50 yards ahead.
