In London British authorities and press carry conflicting despatches about the missing aviator and his mate. No authentic word since the St Johns plane left. Claims of a rescue or salvage are unconfirmed and likely discredited while the world remains divided over the fate of the Hawker and his comrade.
Washington May 19 Senator Lodge Republican leader and chairman of the foreign relations committee says the revised League of Nations is unacceptable and predicts it will not be accepted by the Senate majority without amendment.
Paris May 19 Marshal Foch told the council of four his plan for military operations to be used if pleni potentiaries refuse to sign the peace treaty. He described measures to coerce Germany and pressed for unity among Allied powers for swift action should negotiations fail.
The man who led the Yankee Division during the closing World War era, who replaced General Edwards, ousted Brigadier General Charles H. Cole from the 52d Brigade, Colonel Edward L. Logan from the 101st Infantry, and Colonel Frank M. Hume from the 103d Infantry, has received high honors from military officials.
Rear Admiral Jackson wires the Navy that the NC-4 seaplane under Lieutenant-Commander A C Read will depart HortaAzores for a return flight tomorrow at 7 am GMT if weather allows. A stop is planned at Ponta Delgada, Fayal.

London awaited the fate of Hawker and Grieve after a Sopwith craft, believed Hawker’s, was seen on the ocean forty miles west of the Shannon. Admiralty reports later questioned the reliability of that information as the day grew tense with unanswered questions and rumors.
