240 Million Naval Bill Completed By House Panel
Washington May 18 The House committee ended a five day deadlock to approve a naval appropriation bill for 1917 and rejected the five year build program urged by President Wilson and Secretary Daniels. The measure authorizes five 1917 battle cruisers five dreadnoughts two battle cruisers four scout cruisers ten destroyers twenty submarines one hospital ship one oil fuel ship and one ammunition ship. The gunboat was dropped and the fuel and ammunition ships were added from Daniels plan for the second year.

Four Injured When Car Topples on Boston Line
A smoking and baggage car on a Boston bound New Haven local derailed at Braintree station yesterday afternoon as the train began to move. Four men were so badly hurt they were taken to Massachusetts General Hospital, two others may have internal injuries, and many more suffered minor cuts and bruises. Officials call the incident mysterious and among the railroad’s strangest accidents. The train was moving under two miles an hour.
