Despondent husband and wife attempt gas and suicide
Nils Swenson, despondent after five weeks of marriage, tried to kill himself and his wife by gas early yesterday. He later cut his throat with a razor and was found unconscious in their Columbus Avenue apartment. A milkman discovered Swenson at 7 am with a bloodied throat and the initials KF J N A written in blood on the steps. Swenson’s wife woke choking on gas fumes and shut off two jets, noting the windows were nailed shut. She aired the rooms and told police he objected to her boarders. They had married five weeks earlier after meeting through an agency. Swenson was taken to City Hospital and is expected to recover.
