London May 18 George Meredith famed English novelist died at 3 35 this morning after sudden illness at his Box Hill home Born Feb 12 1828 in Hampshire He studied law briefly then turned to literature serving as war correspondent and later editor at Fortnightly Review His notable works include Diana of the Crossways The Shaving of Shagpat Farina The Ordeal of Richard Feverel Evan Harrington Modern Love and Sandra Belloni His second wife died in 1885 and is buried near Box Hill Continued on Page 12-Fourth Column

Dr C D MacCarthy arrived at 624 Salem street to find his carriage wrecked and driver Edward Sweeney unconscious with cut injuries. Police believe a fast moving vehicle, electric car or wagon, struck the carriage and fled. Sweeney was rushed to the doctor’s home in a police ambulance and remained in serious condition.

Daring safe wrecker Palmer held after Boston robbery link
