Reports from Texas say 100 people killed in Goliad and nearby areas as a tornado and severe storms sweep the region. Additional damage reported across Missouri Iowa and Wisconsin with cloudbursts causing widespread havoc and property loss.
Houston reports at least 50 to 100 killed as the northern portion of Goliad is swept away by a tornado. Beeville also suffers damage from high winds while telegraph lines remain down across the Gulf coast region.
Nina Danforth a 22-year-old South Framingham resident described as tiny and strikingly pretty confessed in court to murdering her lover Andrew J. Emery a Boston & Albany fireman after learning he was married with four children. She waited at his home last night fired three shots then calmly waited at the veranda as witnesses recount the scene.
Captain Cantell recalls the Roddam's harrowing voyage after escaping the Martinique eruption. Fire, ash and boiling mud swept the ship while crew fought to save it, with 18 corpses on deck. The Roddam reached St Lucia for aid as others drifted amid fumes and wreckage.
May 18 Fort de France Martinique reports Mount Pelee eruption persists with ash fall and toxic gases threatening the city. Fears of explosion and conflagration grow as residents flee. In nearby Georgetown 1562 bodies have been buried and lava flows from La Soufriere on St Vincent continue.
Miss Dan forth stood at the front door when she shot, then swung idly on the piazza until the police came. The incident centers on Andrew J. Emery and his residence where the shooting occurred.
A youngster recalls a sudden blaze erupting as a door opened, describing the loudest noise heard and the room glowing like a fire lit. The account continues on page 2.
May 18 a small riot erupted in Memorial square as a crowd of Boston picnickers attacked Patrolman Nolan, hero of a West Roxbury holdup, and attempted to free a prisoner. Four Roxbury and Cambridge men were later arrested for assaulting an officer and aiding the escape. Nolan restrained the ringleader, was briefly assaulted, and refrained from firing due to bystanders. Authorities sent Donley and Jenis for aid, securing four arrests while the principal offender escaped. Nolan was only slightly injured.
William E. Litchfield Jr., 14, son of lumber dealer William E. Litchfield, died at 50 Bradshaw street after a two day illness. At De Meritte School a book struck his head during a game, causing concussion and a fatal brain clot. He died after 3 PM without naming the boy responsible.
Madrid reports an anarchist plot against King Alfonso led to numerous arrests. Dynamite cartridges were seized at the Lopez arrest site and linked to Francisco Suarez. Nine cartridges were recovered. Suspects include six students a printer a carpenter and a mason.
Madrid observed King Alfonso XIIIs coronation anniversary with tears from the Queen mother and a dove-tossing bouquet moment. Two bull fights drew crowds, a foundation stone ceremony for a King Alfonso XII monument occurred, and a gala Don Juan at the Royal Theatre amid general illumination and fireworks. The King issued an address to the army and navy.
The forecast calls for fair weather in Boston and surrounding areas on Monday, followed by partly cloudy to cloudy skies on Tuesday with a chance of showers. Temperatures rise gradually from Monday night into Tuesday, with south to southwest winds developing.

A telegram from Superintendent Forbes to General Manager Van Vieck reports eight blocks of business houses blown down at Goliad. Thirty Black residents and 27 White residents killed, with seven or eight others injured.
A Texas storm swept across the state with the western area near Austin worst hit. Walters Park, 14 miles northwest, lost about 60 houses and many trees were uprooted. In Austin several homes lost roofs and the State School for the Blind suffered damage but no inmates were hurt.
In St Joseph Missouri May 18 the Chicago Great Western railway suffered from a cloudburst destroying over 150 feet of track and grading at Fairbanks and about 200 feet east of Oelwein. Through trains halted. service not expected to resume until tomorrow night or Tuesday. Crops also sustained immense damage with a strip one mile wide and 25 miles long denuded of vegetation.
A cloudburst in eastern Sparta county last night caused heavy damage to farms and the Chicago, Milwaukee and St Paul railroad. Three bridges on the line were carried away and tracks washed out in several locations.
A cloudburst in Dubuque Iowa dropped two inches of rain in one hour creating washouts on the Illinois Central line. The Chicago Milwaukee and St Paul line suffered extensive damage near McGregor.
A May 18 San Antonio storm caused 50 000 to 75 000 in property damage with 72 mph winds for about 20 minutes. Government property at Fort Sam Houston suffered 20 000 in losses. West End Church was destroyed and Hartwell's Hotel plus St Louis College and Academy were damaged. several injuries reported, no deaths. The storm continued from Goliad with severe results.
An electric storm with a cloud burst struck Etna and Forestville in Spring Valley May 18. Several barns and buildings were demolished. A buggy carrying Herman Wilbright, his wife, and three children was swept away. the three children drowned in the torrent.
In Wichita Kansas today May 18 a very heavy rain fell across the wheat belt. A tornado scare was reported but did not materialize as the downpour continued.
A bronze statue of the late General Edward B. Fowler of Brooklyn who led the Fighting Fourteenth in the Civil War was unveiled today at Fort Greene Brooklyn where the unit was mustered in. Mrs Ethel Moody Fowler granddaughter of the general and Mayor Low spoke along with others delivering addresses.
Sergeant Allen and Patrolman Hughes of Station 4 arrested eighteen Chinese men, many veteran players, for Sunday gaming. One Yee Foy tipped off police that a Pi Ku game was underway at 26 Oxford Street. The raid required two wagon trips to move the detainees and evidence.
