A waterspout washed out tracks on the Missouri Pacific and Union Pacific near Leavenworth Kansas. The Missouri Pacific lost 150 feet of rail and seven cattle cars plus an engine tender into the river with 70 cattle killed. Union Pacific suffered two inches of hail, 0.75 miles of track washed away and a bridge washed away further west.
In New York on May 18 John Bowman aged 24 James Gallagher 24 and William Gallagher 21 were struck by a ferryboat while rowing in the East River. Bowman escaped but the two Gallagher brothers drowned. Christian Busch 19 was arrested for the murder of ex-pressman Joseph McGuire claiming self defense. Flour trade officials require printed inspection marks on all sacks and barrel sides showing New York Produce Exchange grade and date.
Pittsburg May 18. Early this morning Boxey Bray and William Hendershot, two Lawrenceville figures, were fatally shot by Policeman McAleese while attempting to abduct a German girl. Officers English and McAleese were attacked. McAleese fired in self defence, fatally striking Bray and Hendershot. The officers were badly injured.
The Sarsfield Guards of New Haven about 40 officers and privates depart tonight for Portland Maine as guests of the Montgomery Guards for a two day visit.
John Walsh of Boston hosted breakfast tomorrow morning with Mayor Lewis State Senator J D Plunkett and about a dozen city officials and prominent citizens as guests. They will return to New Haven Wednesday morning. This afternoon a large costly monument to Mrs Kleeberg was unveiled at the Jewish cemetery with Dr Gottheil of New York delivering the address. Over 400 was contributed by Hebrew residents of Louisville where Rabbi Kleeberg once lived. Mrs Kleeberg was a noted poetess and highly respected. About 50 female workers at L Candee Co rubber works struck yesterday over a wage dispute tied to producing 12 pairs per shift instead of 10.

Reports say he targeted George W. Hopkins barber shop at Temple Place, Walter J. Kund shop at Boylston Hall, and W. H. Brickett store at Bromfield Street, stealing razors clocks and shoes valued in the thousands. Steam indicators found in Conway’s cellar tie him to the crimes including a failed attempt at 206 Tremont Street.

A dispute at North Bennett and Hanover streets left Guiseppi Florilli wounded. both men detained. William Morrison of East Cambridge, who ingested arsenic, died at Massachusetts General Hospital.
