Conventions Clash Over Congressional Nominee in Bedford
In Bedford on May 17 the thirteenth district Democratic convention adjourned amid confusion as delegates nominated Charles Luce for congress after a split vote. George A. Devlin urges broader discussion of a citizen soldier plan including a 300,000-strong trained force to deter major powers and support national defense.
W. S. Greene Nominated for Convention Chair
In New Bedford on May 17 the Republican convention averted a chairmanship dispute by backing Senator Morse over Eliot D. Stetson. William S. Greene was nominated by James E. B. Cuneen, with Thomas C. Day and Andrew J. Jennings also proposed. After a first ballot Greene led with 75 of 139 votes, Day 36, Jennings 28, Greene later seen as unanimous.
