Brigadier General A W Greely head of the Signal Service orders a Caribbean embargo on telegraphes and cables to bar the Spanish admiral from learning U S squadron movements. The Haytien cable company is instructed to send only official messages to or from the government. The manager says the order will be observed.

W Foss Chosen Librarian for Somerville Public Library

Sam Walter Foss elected librarian of the Somerville Public Library to succeed the late John S Hayes. A Somerville resident of 249 Highland avenue with his wife and two children, Foss is a noted prose and poetry writer and former editor of the Saturday Union of Lynn and the Yankee Blade. He has worked with major Boston papers and other notable writers and will likely accept the post.

Death of Dr. Joseph Stedman in New York trip

Word arrived from Jamaica Plain of Dr. Joseph Stedman's death at Watkins Glen New York while returning from a southern tour. Born October 18 1835 in Medfield Massachusetts he served in the Civil War rising to lieutenant colonel and acting colonel after Burrill's capture. He leaves a widow four children and a son on army duty.

Regiments Await Marching Orders At Camp Dewey

Definite orders for moving the Ninth and Sixth Regiments have not arrived at Camp Dewey in South Framingham. Colonels Bogan and Woodward seek instructions while visitors tour tents and seamstresses replace uniforms. A belligerent woman clashed with the provost guard as she attempted to cross the parade path, prompting guards to intervene.

Fine brook trout caught near Moose Head Lake by two sportsmen

Messrs. Byrne and Hibbard reported one to three pound brook trout taken Sunday morning at Moose Head Lake within two hours. They also caught 18 speckled trout in under three hours weighing 30 pounds, with a three day total of 70 pounds. All were taken at the North East Carry near Kinco and Greenville and the Winnegarnock House.
