Mellen Testifies On Street Railways Ownership Fight

President Charles S. Mellen of the New Haven system faced a two hour cross examination in the Supreme Court as Attorney General Malone pressed to reveal what Mellen knew about the absorption of Massachusetts street cars. Mellen admitted the group’s railways were bought for profits and not monopoly aims, and that he carried votes as a director for several lines. The hearing, before Winfield S. Slocum, adjourned with Mellen excused amid questions over stock ownership and ambiguous records.
