A large fire at Shaw and Remby woodworking mill and Highland Coal coal pocket in Medford injured about 100 people and endangered many more. Firefighters rescued two men as flames damaged property estimated near 35000 dollars before control was achieved.
Alderman George Eldrich and Hose 7 crew from Somerville were thrown from their apparatus and bruised. Bernard Papkee and Berton Harvey of Medford were overcome by smoke and cut about the head. Biscoe Simpson and Joseph Sanborn also suffered injuries as smoke blanketed the scene and a hose wagon overturned during the responding effort.
The New York New Haven Hartford railroad plans a Boston to Southern points steamship line touching Fall River New Bedford and New York in a showdown with Morse lines from New York to Southern points. A Boston & Maine stockholder says the line will be built as part of President Mellen's plan to merge with the New Haven system. The move targets Charles W Morse, the steamship magnate with three New York to Southern routes.
A maritime item recalls an overdue vessel reported missing six weeks with a crew including Captain Arthur Hatfield and First Mate James Henry Marshall. Other listed officers and crew members are named, with danger and loss implied amidst gales and persistent search efforts.
Six men walking on C street near West Third street were waylaid by a gang of youths and pelted with bricks. Police from Station 6 rescued them. all six suffered injuries, with Warren A. Wilson of 78 F street taken to the station house for treatment.
After leaving J. S. Hilliard & Sons the strike breakers were met by a hostile crowd on West Second. Bricks stones and wood flew breaking windows and injuring bystanders. Police arrived allowing most to retreat except Wilson who was badly cut. He was treated at the station then sent home.
Twenty drivers employed by C. M. Mandell in South Boston walked out over pay and conditions. Only Mandell’s own team operated yesterday as strikebreakers were anticipated to handle other firms’ wagons. Some employers attempting minor actions were refused by their workers and several were discharged. No broader master teamsters strike occurred.

In New York at the Hotel Gotham William Ellis Corey married actress Mabelle Gilman after securities worth 1,000,000 were transferred to her. The ceremony, delayed by church rules over divorce, was finally performed by Rev. J. L. Clark in a civil setup.
A large New York wedding at the Gotham Hotel is kept behind guarded doors with detectives amid a small guest list. The royal suite on Fifth Avenue hosted an opulent banquet, roses and dogwood decorations, and an estimated five thousand dollar cost.
William O. Douglas ex loan clerk at the Trust Company of America confessed that, guided by a lawyer, he planned to steal $1,000,000 in securities to force concealment of his prior thefts. He had pleaded guilty to larceny and awaits sentence, having previously misused funds and sought legal help to recover losses.
Ex mayor Quincy declines to comment after Douglass confession claiming a lawyer urged theft of securities from the Trust Company of America to gain immunity. Quincy says newspapers know all and he has heard no new statements and will not participate further. He rejected a retainer to act in the cage.
The British bark Osberga from Turk’s Island, six weeks overdue to Boston, arrived at Quarantine Station after a 57 day voyage plagued by gales and hurricanes. Captain Hatfield and his wife Mrs. Kitty Hatfield described the crew’s fight to stay afloat with shattered masts and torn sails while water rations ran low.
Fair and warm conditions expected in Boston and vicinity with fresh southwest winds. Tuesday remains fair and warm, Wednesday brings partly cloudy skies with possible local showers and cooler air. New England forecast calls for fair weather Tuesday and a cooler, showerier pattern for Wednesday or Wednesday night with brisk southwest to west winds.
