Smugglers of bait defy arrest at Fortune Bay

Wreck on Santa Fe Rail Kills 360 Cattle

A Santa Fe freight train near Trinidad Colorado lost air brakes and sped down a slope. Sixteen cattle cars derailed into an embankment, smashing cars and killing 360 cattle. A brakeman was injured and four trespassers are reportedly buried in the wreck. Company losses are estimated at $25,000.

Minor barn and tenement fires reported around city

A series of slight fires were reported last evening. Patrick Collins’s Roslindale barn on Metropolitan Avenue sparked Box 635 at 7 33 and a lan tern caused the blaze. A three story South Boston tenement at 24 West Fifth Street owned by Mr Whitney and occupied by Patrick Dillon burned from matches and children around 8 23. Engine No 7 put out a small blaze at 110 Cove Street near 9 o clock caused by a kerosene lamp. Henry Bros summer hotel at Franklin Park saw a minor alarm from Box 273 at 6 56. A hay stack belonging to Patrick Crowley on Corcoran Avenue near Everett line triggered Box 456 at 8 57. Damage described as very slight in all cases.
