Time limits at El Paso force cavalry into action as pursuit of Glenn Springs targets begins without adequate transport. City and military units coordinate respond to threats and establish screening positions. Officers report limited troop availability constraining chase operations.
Major Langhorne's force halted at Garden Springs twelve miles below Marathon as truck trains moved ahead to prepare camp. Troops F and H and a machine gun unit rest overnight thirty miles from Marathon and seventy miles from the border with Colonel Sibley slated to join and assume command after consolidation. A late conference among Generals Scott Funston and Obregon and officials failed to reach agreement on the status of American troops in Mexico with plans for another meeting.
Ray Melanson of 25 Pearl Street Lynn was badly injured when a drill burst at GE West Law plant. A fragment struck his head tearing his right eye and fracturing his skull. He was listed on the Lynn Hospital dangerous list. aged 30 and employed in factory L.
The White Star liner Cymric, a 13,000 ton steamship, was torpedoed today by a German submarine while en route to Liverpool. Reports say she remains afloat and is steering to an Irish port, though officials withhold attack details. About 100 crewmen are believed aboard with fate uncertain.
A message this afternoon said the Cymric was sinking with no passengers aboard and a vast wartime cargo of munitions. Hopes remained that survivors could be saved as the liner may have gone to the bottom, making it the greatest prize lost to the Germans since the Lusitania.
London reports that four Sinn Fein leaders Cornelius Colbert Edmund Kent Michael Mallon and J J Huston were sentenced to death by the Dublin court martial and executed according to an official statement issued tonight at 10 24 p m
Nineteen others linked to the insurrection faced death sentences but were commuted to various terms of penal servitude. Two received prison terms, three were imposed, and two were acquitted. James M. Sullivan, ex minister to Santo Domingo, reported his release from Dublin. Sir Roger Casement faces a preliminary hearing for high treason and will be remanded for trial before the lord chief justice and a jury.
