Brighton Barn Fire Ends In Heavy Loss And Alarm

Neighbors and firemen fought the blaze as adjoining homes were threatened. Mrs. Spencer woke occupants after alarms rung by milkman Mr. Barry. Flames were extinguished by 5 a.m. with two houses badly scorched. Fire officials label arson as likely cause and neighbors aided recovery efforts.

Two Roslindale men Edward H. Gibbons and Fred Martin nearly drowned on the Charles River while ascending rapids toward Needham.
