Mrs. Louise M. Pernette, 53, of Boston, vanished after leaving for Rockland on a Bangor steamer. Her stateroom was found locked from inside with clothes and money left behind. crew and watchmen dispute whether she could have jumped or left by her own action.
A massive forest blaze fanned by southwest winds rages from Darby toward Rockynook in Kingston and Plympton. The fire, covering about 60 square miles, has destroyed vast pine and birch stands and endangers the Cobb & Drew factory unless winds shift again. Local volunteers and railroad crews battle the flames with limited water in rugged, rocky terrain amid dense smoke and strong odors.
In dense fog the Joy Line steamer Aransas from Boston to New York was struck by coal barge Glendower southeast of Pollock Rip Shoals Lightship at 1:30 AM. Sixty five passengers and crew survived in lifeboats. one woman, identified as Mamie Kelly, was lost. Captain Rood and First Officer Crocker directed rapid evacuation. the Read shipping tug Patience and the barge’s tug were involved in rescue efforts.
The puzzling vanishing of Mrs Lou ise M Pernette from the City of Rockland, while travelling from Boston to Bangor Friday night, drew after service discussion at Clarendon Street Baptist Church. Her father and husband were notable in the South End, and she was a prominent, wealthy figure in local society.

The intruder entered via the vacant 603 Shawmut avenue rear window and crawled through to the front. He pried the 503 front window from a portico and entered the sleeping room where the couple slept.
A Dorchester dwelling at 36 Granite Avenue suffered a fire early yesterday when a lamp exploded on the first floor. James Casey and family fled in nightclothes with Patrolman Spinney aiding their escape. The building, owned by W A Clayton, sustained about 500 in damage.
Local forecast for Boston and vicinity calls for fair conditions today and Monday with continued fair weather likely through Tuesday. Temperature trends not specified. No precipitation expected.
