French premier urges a peace pact but tells a conference that the treaty lacks sufficient guarantees against aggression. He warns that Germany will receive the treaty today. A trial for the former Kaiser is called for in the document.
Paris May 6 The final draft of the peace treaty includes a clause for trying the former German Emperor for supreme offence against international morality and the sanctity of treaties by a tribunal of representatives from the United States Great Britain France Italy and Japan. Marshal Foch voiced strong objections to parts of the terms at a plenary session, signaling continued dissatisfaction among the victors.
New England district reports a daily loan inflow far below the needed average as Secretary Glass appeals at a mass meeting. Campaign officials acknowledge the daunting task of raising the total in a few days and urge all citizens to contribute to reach the $15,000,000 target.
Secretary Glass appeals to New England to fully back the Victory Loan as a national duty. He says complete repayment honors returning soldiers and supports those still abroad, urging parades and rapid action to show the nation’s moral resolve and gratitude to God.
Edward F. Dunne of Illinois touring Ireland as a representative of Irish societies in the United States visited Trinity College in Dublin. He then traveled by car with Sinn Fein leaders Professor Edward De Valera Arthur Griffiths and Count Plunkett to Maynooth and dined with President McCafferey at St Patrick's College.
James J. Phelan president of the 11st Infantry Associates defended wartime funds to aid the 101st Infantry. He said books are open for inspection and funds have been expended judiciously, addressing charges of squandering on non essentials.
