$1000 Fine for Junk Dealer Conspiracy
Bernard Hess a New York junk dealer was fined 1000 by Judge Marten in US District Court for conspiracy to defraud the government in the sale of junk at the Charlestown navy yard. Herman M. Comins of Roxbury foreman for Hess was fined 200 on the same charge. Both pled guilty. The government says concealed weights were used in the weighing before loading and discarded when weighed in the warehouse.

Produce dealer dies in Attleboro auto crash
At Attleboro Falls May 6 John Diamond a produce dealer was killed and his brother William Diamond was injured in a head on collision between their car and a Providence car owned by William Earle. The Earle car had been following a large auto truck and swung left to pass. The Diamond vehicle was hit at full speed and pushed into the gutter with Diamond crushed beneath it.
