Protests 3000 Guardian Allowance in Probate Appeal

Mrs. Horatio N. Slater appeals a Worcester probate ruling that $3000 be paid to Robert F. Herrick of Boston as guardian ad litem for her minor children. The appeal was heard yesterday by Judge Hammond in the Supreme Judicial Court.

Guardian's Six Month Tenure Tied to Slater Mills Sale Plan

The court paused on ruling as guardian Mr. Herrick described visits to the Slater mills in Webster and talks with Kidder Peabody & Co. about a contemplated sale. A letter from former trustee Mr. Smith warned most mills were idle and sale advisable or a receiver might be appointed. Mrs. Slater fought to keep the mills in the family, achieving a compromise after Supreme Court approval of the sale. Herrick suggested he might be paid about 1500 for his time.
