Senate Silver Bill Advances Amid Silver Debate
Washington May 6 The Republican Senate caucus defers final action on the Jones bill, with most members supporting its passage after amendments. The plan would allow monthly silver purchases of 4.5 million dollars value, issue redeemable notes, reissue notes on public dues, and circulate bank notes in liquidation. The measure excludes the bullion redemption feature, pleasing many silver senators but leaving some dissatisfaction over the monthly purchase total. London cables express sympathy for Senator Beck and hope U S silver policy stabilizes global coinage and boosts trade.
