The ad promotes The Conveyancers Title Insurance with simple policies backed by cash resources nearly double any state firm. It claims coverage for fraud, forgery, and mistakes of fact or record, plus very low rates and no state risks. Listed are executives and managers including Frederick C. Bowpitcu president and Henry Y. U. Edes manager.
The Salem Light Infantry Veterans' Association met and elected Major George M. Whipple as president with Henry A. Hale and William A. Hill as captains of the first and second companies respectively. An executive committee selected included Hubbard Breed and William R. Driver. Whipple prepared a history of the company from 1859 to 1890 for Essex Institute, and an historical committee was appointed.

In Paris on May 6 the trial of the Société des Metaux directors opened. All directors faced charges of issuing fictitious dividends. M. Secretan also faced accusations of illegal forestalling of merchandise as he protested the charges and defended his career as honorable. He claimed his aim was to foster patriotism by creating a new French market to lessen reliance on English speculation.

May 6 report from New York states Charles Butler, president of both the Union Theological Seminary council and NYU council, donated $100,000 to the seminary to endow the Edward Robinson chair of biblical theology. He also arranged a like $100,000 gift to NYU, to be allocated across faculties for optimal benefit. Butler, 89, has directed bonds to finalize the endowments during his lifetime, reflecting a long-standing effort to strengthen both institutions.

Mrs Yan Phon Lee of New Haven files for divorce alleging adultery. She married Yan Phon Lee in 1887 after his Yale graduation. Lee, son of a Chinese nobleman, came to the U S in 1873 and studied in Springfield and New Haven before college. He pursued literary work and started an English Chinese Sunday School paper in New York. Mrs Lee was formerly Elizabeth Mand Jerome, daughter of Mrs E Gilbert Jerome of Gilbert avenue.
Washington May 6 chief engineer David Smith ordered to duty connected with state war and navy building. Leave granted to Rear Admiral R S Stembel retired for one year with permission to leave the United States.
Massachusetts cattle commissioners inform R A Lane that his Medford herd shows no contagious pleuro pneumonia in current animals or history, but several cows are diseased with tuberculosis and their milk is unfit for human consumption. Signed by Levin Stockbridge and A W Cheever.
Chicopee voters approved the city charter by 473 to 227 in Springfield on May 6. The result confirms Chicopee’s acceptance of the municipal charter as reported.
A Montreal area fire at the Longue Pointe Lunatic Asylum results in massive destruction. About 100 to 1100 inmates may have perished or escaped as flames engulfed the brick structure. Firefighters faced locked doors and fierce heat while rescuing male patients. several nuns perished while aiding inmates.
A direct import via Gov. Goodwin from Hong Kong offers camphor chests praised for long lasting service. The Chinese chests come in three sizes with polished brasswork and strong camphor aroma, priced at 12, 14, and 16 dollars.
A devastating blaze at the St Jean de Dieu Asylum in Montreal followed a fierce explosion. The fire, mud and cold hindered rescue as walls collapsed and patients fled or froze in the wreckage. Sister Therese is among the injured and at least fifty deaths are reported with seven nuns missing. The institution, run by the Sisters of Providence, housed 164 staff and patients, with property losses in the millions and substantial government insurance.
In Norwalk May 6, Robert Gardner Wilson heir to a New York fortune and son of the late Joseph W. Wilson married Miss Fannie, daughter of Oliver E. Wilson, at the First Congregational Church with Rev. Dr. Thomas K. Noble officiating. Nearly a thousand relatives and friends attended. The reception followed at the bride's home and the couple then departed for an extended tour of the South and West.
Ernest Utler, jailed in Mimprtowy for bigamy after marrying Jennie Griffis, caused a jail scene when Griffis visited in disguise with two men. Griffis and her companions were later captured. Utler was arrested in Unionville after the escapade.
Chattanooga reports great excitement over an English deal forming the Wallview syndicate to found the city of Kimball in Sequatchie Valley Tennessee. Vice president and GM H I Kimball of Atlanta Exposition fame leads the venture. The 65000 acre property lies twenty miles from Chattanooga with four miles of Tennessee River frontage and rich coal iron and lumber potential. The syndicate enjoys unprecedented southern backing and aims to duplicate Atlanta success.
