Start Steel Trust Trial in New York
In a major government case filed in Trenton, the United States Steel Corporation and its subsidiaries face claims of unlawful combinations in restraint of trade. The suit cites the Federal Steel Company, Carnegie Company, American Steel and Wire, National Tube, National Steel, American Tin Plate, American Sheet Steel, and others formed circa 1898 to 1900. The government alleges monopolistic control aided by interlocking directorates and Morgan supervision. The steel group denies charges, arguing subsidiary formation was normal and that competition has increased since 1901.
