The divorce suit brought by Harriet G. B. Cook of Brattle Street Cambridge centers on a quantity of expensive liquor and a vehement attack on the character of Walter W. S. Cook a former Harvard instructor as the case moves toward its final stages.
President Harding conferred two hours with John L. Lewis head of the United Mine Workers and Labor Secretary Davis on certain fundamental coal industry conditions. Afterward Lewis said the discussion was substantive but declined to disclose details.
Grand Opera House saw George Calzo the Italian champion defeat Hassane the Turkish champion in two falls. Harold Christensen the Danish champion beat Cyclone Ross. John Kilonis of Manchester NH defeated Jim Conrad. Boxing results include Avilla over Diggins in ten, Parker over Nelson in eight, Marto KOed Woods in New York, and Hoben over Palmer in Philadelphia. Miss Frances Lilly 18 was arrested in Portland on larceny charges for taking 700 dollars from Foster Avery & Co where she worked as assistant cashier. Francis X. Thomas 21 was charged as accessory before and after the fact. Lilly allegedly confessed and said Thomas urged the theft to fund a car purchase. Part of the money was used for a deposit on a car and shopping, with 205 found hidden at Thomas' home.
Carrie W N Hubbard of Roslindale awaits grand jury action in the murder case of her husband William B Hubbard the so called Germicide King. Witnesses are called before the grand jury as funeral plans remain secret and counsel and friends near Rosie schedule.
Mrs Myra W A York of 172 Broadway Somerville left home after withdrawing about 6000 from banks and taking diamonds valued around 1000. She is detained by immigration officials in Vancouver British Columbia and will be held there for a week.
Henry A. York of C L York & Co Boston says he will travel to Vancouver to bring his wife back to Somerville. She left April 25 for New York then Montreal spent a night at Queen's Hotel and arrived in Vancouver last Monday. He notes she withdrew about 6000 from banks and took 1000 worth of diamonds before leaving home.
In a major Mattapan operation, police seized 60 gallons of alcohol 900 gallons of mash two 40 gallon stills 300 pounds of sugar 200 pounds of grain and other distilling gear from the attic of 122 Blue Hill avenue. Emmanuel Wise and Morris Pearlstein were arrested charged with violating the prohibition law. Sergeant James J. Gallagher led the raid with Mattapan station officers.

Dublin on May 4 reports a peace conference agreeing to a truce between rival Irish forces. The armistice takes effect at 4 pm and lasts until 4 pm next Monday. The Associated Press notes hopeful steps toward reconciliation amid ongoing conflict.

In the American League Detroit defeated St Louis 6 to 5 while Chicago edged Philadelphia New York rain affected games. In the National League St Louis topped Cincinnati 8 to 7 with other rain impacted matchups including Pittsburgh Brooklyn and New York Philadelphia games disrupted by rain.
Lieutenant-Colonel Horsey testified before the Senate committee on military affairs that Major Clarence R. Edwards of Boston was blamed for the 26th Division dispute. The hearing featured Major Edwards as the central figure with defense and testimony from various officers.
A tornado struck the Oakhill area eight miles south of Austin, Texas, killing four members of the Bardsley family and seriously injuring another. The storm moved from Austin into the Oakhill community, with only scant casualty details available at this time.
The Winslow resolution to authorize government purchase of the Cape Canal was reported by the House interstate commerce committee. The estimated cost is 12 600 000 dollars.
