A patrol wagon from the Lagrange Street station was struck by a surface car near 11 last night while responding to a call from the South station. Patrolman Charles M. Adams was thrown from the wagon and suffered a fractured right arm a dislocated wrist a scalp wound a sprained leg and a general shaking up.
London May 4 The Khyber Pass again centers attention as regular levies align with tribesmen in a looming India border clash. British India prepares under Major General Sir James Willcocks as Afghans threaten blockhouses and frontier outposts in the ongoing tension.
Public hearing in Grand Army Hall Chelsea square on a government by commission bill drew 700 citizens. Three voices spoke against the measure as supporters and opponents voiced their views before a voice test.

Clerks fled as flames spread, the engineer quickened to Sharon Heights to uncouple the burning car. other cars remained uninjured and the train resumed to New York after a delay. In the Massachusetts Senate yesterday afternoon Senator Spalding of Cambridge accused Mayor Hibbard of overstepping bounds. He cited a letter from the mayor to Senator Frank J. Linehan of South Boston as a tool for Democratic leverage against Republicans.
Senator Spalding denounces Mayor Hibbard for not appearing before the committee to oppose the salary increase for two Suffolk Superior Court clerks. The Senate, after considering the mayor's letter and lines of argument, voted to reconsider and rejected the bill by a 3 to 10 rising vote, despite local opposition and calls for retrenchment.
Boston school committee discussed sending Boston teachers to Germany as paid instructors and receiving German teachers in return. Most members favored the exchange with potential acceptance for at least one teacher in the High School of Commerce. The meeting also noted a looming deficit unless new funds are found, per business agent William T. Keough.
