Bremen May 4 The Egyptian eye disease outbreak has led to the shutdown of public schools with over 1500 pupils affected. Officials blame the epidemic on the filthiness of school buildings and sanitary conditions.

New York May 4. Gedney president and Ingersoll cashier of the North River Bank were arrested on perjury charges for falsifying the June 14 and September 27 bank condition reports. Bail set at 15000 and 5000. Receiver’s attorneys allege the specie shown did not exist. Similar arrests reported from Philadelphia for Keystone National Bank officials.

Yale Athletic Association held its spring games at Yale field as a strong wind hampered events. A. H. Jones won the 100 and 220 yard dashes, L. Scoville, Jr. led the 440 yards, H. L. Williams claimed the hurdle events, W. R. Wright, Jr. won the half mile, A. C. Williams the mile, E. D. Ryder the pole vault, H. L. Williams the broad jump, A. L. Reynolds the high jump, H. A. Elcock excelled in hammer and shot put, and S. H. Bunnell topped the mile walk.
The twenty first international Y M C A conference in St Joseph Missouri adjourned after five days with over 800 delegates in attendance. Waltham May 4 Special to the Post Aldermen in regular session received a communication from the commissioners of public buildings and grounds asking for 1000 additional for grading around the new fire station on the South Side an order covering the same passed to a second reading Four hundred dollars was appropriated for the purchase of the bell in the Methodist Church to be placed in the tower of the Central Fire Station The salary of the clerk of the overseers of the poor was increased from 400 to 600 that of the clerk of Board of Cemetery Managers from 100 to 200 and that of the drivers and laddermen of the fire department was increased 10 per year An order appropriating 2000 for street watering was passed to a second reading.
