Pension and teachers bill sparks intra party clash in Boston
In Boston the debate over pensions and teachers bills drew sharp lines. Soule of Bristol opposed limiting personal control of funds while Kelcher of Suffolk argued pensions would raise service standards and cost taxpayers nothing. Innes of Suffolk favored the teachers bill but opposed pensioning one class. The group disagreed on immediate passage as Attwill and Maxwell split from Kelcher and Innes, leading to a defeated motion to refer and a failure to grant a third reading.
