Boston businessmen, manufacturers and chambers declare support for a permanent tariff commission to provide impartial data for revisions. They warn the current 40 day trade disruption could extend, urging creation of a nonpartisan board to collect information and aid Congress and the President without replacing their powers.
Paris authorities condemn James Hazen Hyde of New York former Equitable Life vp and his chauffeur Ladwice by default to one month in jail and $100 fine for hitting a public taxicab and injuring a passenger. Ladwice also faces a one month term and $30 fine after fleeing the scene.
A fiery defense argues Mayor Hibbard acted with sound judgment and expert advice in renewing the city lighting contract. Critics from merchants groups claim manipulation by a single speaker and accuse officials of pressuring the mayor, noting the eight month delay in cancelling the old deal and urging proper investigation before committing to a new agreement.
Mayor Hibbard plans to refuse reopening the lighting contract matter in a letter to President James J. Storrow of the Boston Merchants Association. Secretary McKibben attacked the Mayor and contract while Edison’s E W Burdett defended the deal and accused Storrow of pursuing personal aims.

Miss Pearl Dillon famed from a Jordan Hall musicale weds Arthur A Wood after a cross country journey from Los Angeles. The ceremony at midnight followed Wood's arrival and was conducted by Rev. Fred B. Fisher. The Boston opera company had hoped for Dillon to sign with Signor Constantino urging a contract.
Miss Dillon, well known in Boston, is reportedly engaged to Mr. Wood of the Southern Pacific Railroad. She is in her fourth year at a conservatory and noted as a hard worker, with the marriage said to be a surprise to her friends. Continued on Page 12-Second& Column.
In Rockland at 3 a m a fire destroyed a cottage killing Benjamin Lee 65 and his niece Edith Winslow 31. The bodies were severely charred, delaying autopsy usefulness. Dr. Osgood called state police to probe origin as the nearby house also burned but was saved by firefighters. Both victims were colored.
Chester S. Jordan rested in his cell at East Cambridge jail awaiting jury verdict on a wife murder trial. He spent his evening reading Sunday coverage of his case and later visited with family before the night.
Jordan's sobbing mother and his relatives accompany him to the jail for what may be the trial's final day. Judge Stevens and Judge Bell are to preside at 9 15 this morning as the courtroom awaits a conclusion.
