Districts struggle to meet loan quotas as a $27 400 000 funding drive shows limited progress. The effort aims to boost state projects with daily oscillator targets while Connecticut reports a lag behind Vermont and a measured surplus of 09 783 000 in the drive totals.
At Versailles on May 1 the German plenipotentiaries presented their credentials to Allied and U S representatives marking the first formal step in the peace negotiations. The session began at 3 10 pm and lasted about five minutes. Pale appeared pale and half faint, reflecting the tense opening of the talks.

In a town show, John Henry, keeper of the lioness Lyncy and her cubs, was killed when the lioness seized his neck after he shut a door. The animal then escaped, panicking the audience and prompting lockdowns as residents fled and schools were warned.
The widow of Vernon Castle the dancer who joined the Royal Flying Corps and died in Texas is to remarry. Mrs Castle will marry Robert E Treman of Ithaca New York formerly a captain in the Continued on Page 5 Fourth Col
