President Wilson warns war lords of overseas conflict and urges vigilance. He states America would awaken from a dream to defend traditions and the nation’s honor if drawn into war and promises a strong voice for justice and liberty.
The United States awaits Germany's response described as distinctly disappointing on cruiser warfare. Washington says any agreement must compel Allies to respect rights of undersea craft and restrict American freedoms at sea.
Washington May 1 The submarine warfare pause is described as temporary to press Allies for concessions. If Germany wins concessions the halt may become permanent and President Wilson would be asked to accept terms.
President Wilson opened the National Service School military encampment for young women in Washington. He urged American resolve and warned that national honor and integrity cannot be tampered with while hoping to avoid entering another war.

Washington reports say Secretary Baker told General Scott and General Funston to press Obregon that no withdrawal of American troops will be discussed at the Juarez conference. Obregon declined to comment awaiting future developments as gloom spread among Mexican officials.
Kansas City May 1 Billy Sunday wants to conduct his campaign in Boston not Cambridge and still hopes to preach in a wooden tabernacle. He has given no intimation he will refuse Boston if a wooden tabernacle is unavailable. Sunday believes he would reach more people in central Boston than in a suburb.
Speculation in El Paso centers on General Obregon’s likely response to proposals from General Scott and Funston at the upcoming conference. Some say his only feasible course would be to reject the terms.

Mr. Lee urged Dr. Dyer, the superintendent, to prepare the report as head of the system.
The New England Fat Men's Club met at the Revere House last evening with about 70 members present. The lightest guest weighed 200 pounds and the heaviest 404 pounds, presided over by W. S. Quimby. Former Mayor Wardwell of Cambridge was the principal speaker.

Miss Minnie Walsh a 35 year old lodging house keeper at 88 West Newton street was shot and seriously wounded by a supposed burglar about 1 15 this morning. Her assailant fled after being chased nearly a mile by one of her lodgers as she prepared to retire for the night.
Miss Gertrude Walsh slept through a pistol aimed at her sister Miss Walsh who screamed and was shot in the temple. Lodgers chased the intruder, a 20 year old man in dark clothes, who fled through front and back alleys. Miss Walsh was treated by a local doctor.
Miss Marion Dickie of Linden Avenue Roxbury was held up at gunpoint just before 11 30 last night as she approached her home. An unknown mulatto man about 5 feet 8 inches tall and 160 pounds dragged her into the yard before fleeing as neighbors converged.
