Boston Prohibition Club organized at Washington Street

The Prohibitionists of Boston met last evening at 2944 Washington street with about twenty attendees. Dr. H. A. Gibbs presided as officers were elected for the year including President Herbert E. Phinney First Vice President O. G. F. Weed Second Vice President A. Bigelow Secretary M. Webster and Treasurer F. W. Clark. The meeting adjourned until May 15.

Ex-Tax Collector Stebbins arraigned on embezzlement charge

Greenfield May 1 Ex Tax Collector Stebbins formerly of Deerfield was arraigned before Justice Martin today on embezzlement charges and held in six thousand dollar bond for a hearing May 10.

Evans pleads guilty in Superior Court to blackmail and gets an 18 month sentence in Edgartown. Wesley the Cottage City firebug is indicted for attempted insurance fraud and pleads not guilty. defense says unprepared and hints at possible insanity. Case continued. Wesley freed on $1500 bond. Remaining defendants to be tried tomorrow.

Fire alarms in Somerville injure chief with minor damage

Firefighters responded to a blaze in cotton bales on a vacant lot at Crosse street and Broadway in Somerville. Chief Hopkins was thrown from his wagon and severely injured while responding. damage from the incident was slight.
