Weymouth liquor laws dodge enforcement over years
The town’s liquor enforcement faltered from the 1880s into the 1890s as licenses were repeatedly granted and revoked, raids failed, and druggists openly violated sixth class licenses. A 1888 crackdown under Captain Garey yielded results, but later years showed lax efforts, with officials and officers seen at taverns and poker rooms and no-licence policies failing to curb illicit sales.
