Police Enroll Voters Under New Boston Plan

Police begin seven day voter enrollment under a new act. Officers will compile true resident lists by building, collect names from 20 year olds, then turn data to election commissioners. Supplementary registration ends Sept 1, with penalties for false names or misled inquiries.

Licenses Granted as Board Grants 969 to Date

The Board of Police finished granting liquor licenses with 969 issued so far. One hotel, the Hotel Italy at North End, was refused due to proximity to a school. Eight licenses were rejected and three are in abeyance. four more held up due to neighboring objections. Club licenses: 39 granted, three rejected. Drugstore licenses: 220 granted. seven did not apply or late. Hotel Touraine annex and Bowdoin Square Hotel licensed under new management. Howard House approved for first and fourth class license.

Morris Family Welcomes Son In New York

In New York on April 80 Mare Hennen Morris and his wife Miss Alice Vanderbilt Shepard welcomed a son born yesterday at their townhouse 269 West Seventy-second Street. If he lives the child will inherit the Morris Shepard fortunes. The note follows the couple’s recent marriage and prominent family line.

House Approval Advances State Referendum Movement

34 Saloons Open in Salem This Week

Salem April 30 At 6 o clock tomorrow morning 34 legalized saloons will open to serve residents and visitors. Commissioners granted 35 licenses but John Kiley lacked a location yesterday. a transfer seems likely. Large quantities of liquor have arrived in the city in recent days, signaling ample supply.

Fire at Brighton Stockyards Wrecks Slaughter House

A major fire at Brighton Slaughter House 17 destroyed a large abbatoir facility and endangered the 500000 dollar plant. About 8000 tons of oil tallow and steer oil were damaged or lost. Firemen were injured as walls toppled and steamers battled the blaze near the Charles River. Manila April 30 The town of Mariquena in Manila province has been wiped out by a blaze. About a thousand houses burned and residents suffer distress. Relief efforts are under way as authorities suspect an incendiary fire possibly linked to scattered insurgent bands.

Rescuers Save Five From Column Avenue Fire

At 3:55 p.m. a blaze in Mrs Andrewss ground floor apartments at 616 Columbus avenue trapped residents on multiple floors. Patrolman Crowley led quick rescues from the upper levels as ladders 12 and 17 carried out Miss Emma Andrews Ella Berry Lizzie Lamont and Blanche Carpenter. Fire caused about $800 in damage with smoke and one uninsured loss for Mrs Andrews.
