Catholic Societies Gather For Archdiocesan Convention

Upwards of 800 representatives attended the fifth annual convention of the Archdiocesan Federation of Catholic Societies at St. Alphonsus Hall Roxbury with Henry V Cunningham presiding. Cardinal O Connell sent a letter of support and praise as speakers addressed Catholic youth protection and social work.

Relief funds at Trinity Church aid flood victims

Parishioners at Trinity Church contributed to flood relief during the morning service. Envelopes sponsored by the board of bishops were placed for rebuilding mission churches wiped out, with Red Cross envelopes also available. The collection was large and many used both envelopes as prayers for the afflicted were offered.

Austrian government sends $5000 for flood relief

A cablegram to the Austrian embassy reported the government wired $5000 to its Cleveland consul to be added to the general fund for relief of flood sufferers in Ohio and Indiana.

Nielsen and Dwyer Sing at Boston Opera House

A yesterday afternoon concert featured soprano Alice Nielsen tenor Michael Dwyer and pianist Emiliano Renaud before a full Boston Opera House audience. Nielsen offered a mix of folk songs and art songs including Debussy and Chabrier, while Dwyer received warm applause for his agreeable voice and Renaud delivered Liszt and Godard with polished technique. Charles Strong provided notable accompaniment.
