Huntington West Virginia faces a food and water famine as 15,000 of 40,000 residents are homeless and 12 people are reported missing. The Ohio River reached 66.2 feet, the highest on record, and the flood damage is near 1 million dollars while darkness and isolation persist.
Water fills streets and rises to the second floor of buildings as the city endures record flooding. Businesses suffer extensive damage while responders coordinate evacuations and rescue efforts. Local authorities warn residents to shelter as supplies run low.
Springfield dispatch reports Governor Dunne learning Cairo's wire was cut just before midnight cutting off telephonic service. Desperate efforts were under way to restore telegraphic contact amid fears of levee failure. Train loads of people fled Cairo today.

Eleven people in two cars were injured in a near head on collision at Cohasset yesterday afternoon. The most seriously hurt were Charles Eliot and Alva Poole of Brockton, both thrown clear of their cars. Eliot suffered possible internal injuries. Poole had severe cuts and bruises.
Lauriston Mink aged 33 of Rockland shot his sweetheart Miss Della Young 28 of Searsport in Belfast while calling on her. He then attempted suicide by drinking poison.
The woman is expected to recover after four shots were fired at her, two hitting. One bullet pierced her neck below the right ear and another hit her right shoulder. Mink, a Boston stable hand for three months, had returned home just yesterday.

Harlakenden House, known as the Churchill property, is a two story brick estate three miles beyond Windsor Vermont. J Pierpont Morgan is in critical condition in Rome with doctors reporting increasing weakness and inability to take nourishment. The bulletin warns the worst is feared unless a reaction occurs, as his son-in-law and physicians had previously sought to conceal the true state.
Mrs. Augusta Hanson carried her two grandchildren Florence Lindahl and Eva Lindahl down two flights of stairs to safety at 31 Raven Street Dorchester then returned to fight the blaze with buckets of water as firefighters arrived at 5 45 p m. The Swedish immigrant mother of Mrs Lindahl, unable to speak English, acted selflessly amid flames.
Dr M Allen Starr of New York, summoned from Naples, examined Mr Morgan after his return from Cairo. He arrived last night and visited Morgan three times, joined by Prof Giuseppe Bastianelli and Dr George A Dixon. They report Morgan weakened, refusing nourishment since Wednesday, with no organic disease but critical weakness.
