Priceless Records Destroyed by Fire in Albany Capitol
Five million dollars estimate the damage to the New York State Capitol as a fire razed the State library and adjacent offices. Key records including 23 Dutch manuscript volumes of Governors of New Amsterdam and Governor Clinton correspondence were lost. The building’s interior remodel may be pursued in restoration, with the Senate chamber largely intact and no insurance carried.
