In New Bedford a 30 000 worker strike was averted when the Manufacturers Association agreed to the full 10 per cent wage increase after a march and jubilant meetings. The advance takes effect March 25 and formal union action will follow later this week.
Samuel Malta his wife Jennie and their six month old baby were arrested by Special Officer Fitzgerald in East Boston on charges of passing counterfeit quarters and dimes. Police say small shopkeepers in Winthrop and East Boston were swindled for nearly a month with around $200 in counterfeit money passing through the districts.
Providence dispatch reports North Providence police probe a youth suspect in the February 29 murder of 12 year old William Mathers Jr. The victim was found battered in shrubbery near the Jad's home, prompting frantic local investigation and appeals for clues.
Police suspect a juvenile carried out the murder and tried similar assaults on other local youths. Town officials may offer a reward and Governor Pothier might assist in pursuing the criminal.
Judge James H. Flint of the Norfolk County Probate Court returned from a Berkshires honeymoon and publicized his March 7 wedding. His bride, Annie C. Hubbard, is widow of real estate operator Henry C. Hubbard of Roxbury and sister-in-law of Captain W. H. Dyer of Dorchester. The marriage occurred at Captain Dyer’s home with Rev.
