Boston Finance Commission urged Governor Foss to veto the $500 raise for Suffolk Register of Probate Arthur W. Dolan and to veto any other salary increase bills for county officials that may reach him this year.

Chester Balkum a 40 year old man carrying his 12 year old niece Martha Cole fell from the Hotel Columbus elevator shaft from the third to the basement at 315 Columbus avenue in Brookline The 65 foot plunge killed the child who died at City Hospital shortly before 10 o’clock Balkum remains in a dying condition with a fractured spine and scalp wounds at the hospital

Elevator Tragedy Ends In Basement Fall

Balkum, holding a child and accompanied by Mrs. Lillian Coleman and Mrs. Eva Morrow, entered a hotel elevator shortly before 8. He tried to stop the car at the third floor and lost balance, plunging down to the basement as the car continued. The incident ends with a fatal fall amid a crowded hotel scene.

Death of Virginia Seeley, one of the Seeley quadruplets

Virginia Seeley, eight months old and one of four born to Mrs. Thomas H. Seeley of Dorchester, died Friday of bronchitis. Funeral was held yesterday. The other three sisters Eleanor Barbara and Louise thrived after infancy in an incubator at Dorchester Cottage Hospital.

Shooting on North Street After Card Game Dispute

Salvatore Tormana, 25, of 44 Webster Avenue North End, is hospitalized with a gunshot wound at Relief Hospital. He alleges Santo Loratto of 4 Keiths Alley North End shot him on North Street opposite Fulton Place early last night.

Card game dispute ends in shooting and mob attack

Surgeons fear Tormana may die after a bullet lodged in his stomach during a card game quarrel. Loratto fired four shots and was mobbed by angry citizens. Patrolman Morris Sullivan intervened to prevent serious injury with a short club after an axe attack. Loratto was stunned by a blow.

Fire damages home of Major Blake on Dedham road

A fire yesterday afternoon at Major Arthur Blake's Governor's staff residence on Guild road Dedham caused about 9000 dollars in damage. Partitions in the rear were badly burned and water damage was extensive. A overheated furnace started the blaze which had gained headway before discovery as high winds hampered firefighters.

Nearly 200 Leave for New York in Strike Action

Nearly 200 striking workers on men's garments left Boston for New York to be put to work in union shops. More than 500 strikers paraded to South Station to bid them farewell, with 35 women among the onlookers. Three special cars were provided for the departure, and a second 200-person party was slated to leave today.

Drowned Foreman in Ware River Tragedy

Robert McKenzie a 20 year old foreman for the Connecticut River Transmission Company drowned in the Ware river while crossing with two laborers. The boat filled and McKenzie attempted to swim to shore but did not survive. The two laborers reached the river bank safely.

Comte Raoul de Saint Phalle chancellor of the French embassy in Washington died after a two month illness. He had served the embassy 18 years, was 58, and unmarried. Relatives in France have been notified of his death.
