Stanley Francis alias Arthur S. Foster, promoter of the Storey Cotton Company and Provident Investment Company, was arrested by postal inspectors in Philadelphia on using the mails for fraudulent purposes. Held to bail of 100000 after a hearing before United States Commissioner Craig. if unable to post, he was committed. Authorities say he led fraudulent get-rich-quick schemes with the two companies, now under receivers, with extensive mail business and numerous skeptical creditors.
Mrs. Faustina Shepard testifies in Cambridge court for separate maintenance against Obed C. Shepard of Waltham alleging cruelty and desertion. She collapsed on the stand after a poem from their past was read by her lawyer. Witness Lizzie Bell accuses Shepard of allegations during a recess.
