An explosion in the gas house at Arnold print works injures two foremen, with Charles Wicks in critical condition and Cr. W. Lewis badly burned. Fire department prevents spread to nearby blocks and oil tanks. management hopes to reopen tomorrow.
Liberty Kempf, a prominent Washington businessman, choked his wife during a supper quarrel. The wife obtained a revolver and fired five shots, one hitting Kempf in the brain. He died within minutes. She told police her story and has not yet been arrested.
The arraignment of Blondin is postponed as counsel seeks to clear outside matters. Judge Morrison of Lowell agrees to the delay, with a probable appearance late next week. Blondin remains under Sheriff surveillance at East Cambridge as Morrison, Jaques, and prosecutors finalize the State’s case after witness examinations.

Newton March 23 Alden Speare president of Alden Speare's Sons Company of Boston died late last evening at the Hotel Green Pasadena Cal where he had been staying with his wife the past six weeks The news reached here and his eldest son Lewis R Speare left for California to accompany the body He died of heart failure after years of ill health He was a director of many banks railroads and public institutions and a notable benefactor to education and charity He was born in Chelsea Vermont in 182 He came to Boston in 184 and founded Spears Burke Co later Alden Speare's Sons Co He retired as president but remained active He was twice mayor of Newton and an early leader in religious and civic work He gave 100000 to Boston University and donated a library building to Chelsea Vermont and land to Newton Centre M E Church He is survived by Caroline M Robinson his wife and four children, Lewis R Speare Edward Ray Speare Minnie Haven Bila Huntington. The funeral will likely be at Elmwood in Centre location.
William Henry Hutchinson, former Alderman and Representative, died from heart trouble while walking near his home in Lynn. Born October 1834, he had long suffered paresis and is survived by his widow, two sons, and a daughter. He led Hutchinson & Kimball in Brockton and the W H Hutchinson Hardware Co. in Lynn, and served as director of Lynn National Bank and Lynn Safe Deposit and Trust Co. He was a trustee of the Boston Street M B Church.

Police close the Mrs. Julia B. French death case after discovering the whereabouts of 15000 dollars, suspected to be Mrs. French’s investment. Deputy Coulter says no foul play suspected and calls the death an accident. Funeral moved to allow her son Arthur Frenzel to attend.

On Main street a wagon from A B Pierce Son undertakers collided with a trolley car. Winfield P. Pierce suffered severe cuts and shocks and Charles Seele suffered a severe scalp wound multiple cuts and rib fractures. Pierce was driven home by police ambulance while Seele remained in critical condition at Melrose Hospital. The wagon and horses were badly damaged.
A blast of dynamite near Houghton, Michigan, about eight miles north, killed two men and severely injured another. The explosion occurred in a house as the family was at church. Two boxes of dynamite kept for stump blasting ignited and fed the fire.

Lowell faces one of its largest strikes as mill agents reply with a flat wage demand rejection. About 17,000 workers across seven big mills may strike after textile council officials read a unified but unsigned note from agents in Lowell.
The Mule Spinners' Union of Lewiston Maine voted for a 10 percent wage hike to take effect March 31. A general meeting of all mill workers Monday will discuss the situation with the threat of a general strike if demands are not met. Local mill agents claim ignorance and say Fall River wages are unrelated. mills involved include Bates Continental Androscoggin Avon Barker and others employing thousands.
