Underground wiring urged by Boston fire chief for safety

Fire Commissioner Russell reports 1980 alarms and 1,941,261 dollars in fire losses in Boston from Feb 1 last year to Jan 31 this year. He recommends primarily burying fire alarm wires from Dover Street to Albany and expanding to Charlestown, plus an extra ladder company near Engines 38 and 39 on Congress Street. The department totals 888 firefighters.

Bram Hashway murder case sparked by a hoax confession

A Halifax report claimed Pierce Cross said Bram confessed to Herbert Fuller murders. Officials call it a hoax. Bram remains in Charlestown Prison with a possible future retrial as habeas corpus timing looms and witnesses stay held in Boston.

Yale University to Receive Entire Will of Prof Marsh

The late Professor O. C. Marsh of Yale files his will in New Haven Probate Court. All real and personal property goes to Yale except 10 000 dollars to the National Academy of Sciences. Marsh house becomes a botanical garden. orchids and greenhouse plants go to Yale. 30000 dollars from George Peabody estate is given to Yale for natural science research. The library goes to Yale Library with duplicates to the Peabody Museum Library. Executors are Professors George J Brush and William W Farnham.

Police raided the Rainy Day Poker Club on Eliot Street at 4 15 p m arresting twenty two members who had gathered to play poker while awaiting rain to stop The club met at Carleton all 45 Eliot Street and the rooms were plain and sparsely furnished

Police swept Carleton Hall and arrested several men described as teamsters and outdoor workers. Three games were underway when the squad arrived. authorities noted the club was active mainly on rainy days and offered no resistance.

Bark La Escocesa Sunk Off Robins Reef In Squall

The British bark La Escocesa capt Evans in ballast bound for Carter New Jersey was struck by a northwest squall near Robins Reef lighthouse and turned over. Towing vessel MecCardin Brothers sinking as the bark rolled. All aboard rescued by the Staten Island ferry Robert Garrett and landed at St George Staten Island.
