Albany March 21 The Carnegie Corporation will handle all future gifts of the retired steel master under a bill introduced in the New York Senate today by Senator Frawley.
Five of the eight incorporators head Carnegie institutes and foundations including Elihu Root and Henry S. Pritchett. The bill creates a fund to advance knowledge in education libraries science and publications with trustees empowered to hold property and spend income to promote the object. Senator Frawley says he knows little about the matter but expects these men will be the catalyst.
A government bill accompanies a typewritten list detailing Mr. Carnegie’s philanthropy totaling 183 235 000 including funds for libraries endowments teaching institutions and international peace. In a separate item a worker fractures skull in a fall from a house in Wareham Street and is listed as critically injured.
Miss N. K. Witherell reported burglars entered through a broken plate-glass window at 158 Ashmont Street Dorchester and ransacked the home from garret to basement. A sealskin coat valued at 100 dollars was found, and the missing silverware and plate are described as the valuables most likely taken.
The piece urges immediate attention to skin eruptions caused by impure blood and insists that external applications cannot purify the blood and that a quick inexpensive cure is necessary.
City officials moved to readvertise bids for the large garbage contract. Commissioner Rourke announced the decision after a day of debate. He had earlier opposed advertising in the ten largest city papers, citing Section 29 of the new city charter which requires exclusive advertising.
Mayor Fitzgerald, corporation counsel, and City Auditor Mitchell back Commissioner Rourke in a dispute over disposal bids. A Chamber of Commerce committee says Boston business leaders may form a rival refuse company offering to finance stations and take the contract cheaper. They have retained lawyers and already submitted a proposal, while Rourke demands bids called for in the process. President Payne and Director Stockton of the Boston Disposal Company met with Rourke to press their position.
The City Record serves as the official municipal organ detailing city government actions, notices, public meetings, and local administrative decisions for residents and agencies. It consolidates ordinances, contracts, vacancies, and statutory notices into one public record.
Commissioner Rourke said officials sought to understand the incident and defend their proposal. Frank P. Neelan of Chelsea submitted a ten year disposal offer to the Mayor for 42 000 dollars per year, 12 000 less annually than the current New England Sanitary Company.
A unnamed woman, 45 or 50, was accidentally locked in an office building at 68 Cornhill last night. Her uproar attracted more than a thousand curious bystanders before the janitor at 46 Cornhill opened the door. She had gone to the building to visit a firm around 6 pm and believed the stairs were unguarded after hearing a downstairs voice cry all out.
