Gen Cushing to Speak at Dragoon Anniversary in Tremont Temple

Boston notes extensive preparations by the Light Dragoons for their anniversary at Tremont Temple with Gen Cushing delivering the principal address. The Dragoon Band under Edward Kendall will perform, and a large civic and military audience is expected alongside invited officers and ladies.

Confirmation at St Mark's Parish in Concord Street

Under harsh weather a crowded St Mark's temporary chapel in Concord street saw Rt. Rev. Manton Eastburn administer the Anglican rite of Confirmation to twenty six recipients with five or six unable to attend. Rector C F Knight expressed gratitude for the first year's fruitful work as the bishop urged the new members to live by their stated professions. The congregation participated with evident earnestness and unity.

Arrest for Larceny and Fires Sweep Boston Area

Three coats valued at $60 were stolen from B F Hallett’s residence on Hayward Place. Henry and Mary McNancy were arrested, with garments returned to the owner. Fires erupted at W W Mercer’s confectionery on Washington Street causing about $2000 in damage. insurance covered most losses. Minor damage reported at No 2 Change Avenue, and a new two story dwelling on Third Street was destroyed after a collapse injuring Hiram Taylor.
