Tuberculosis patients in New York who sought Dr. Friedmann's turtle culture face limited access under current rules. The Berlin doctor's treatments are restricted to hospitals, and open facilities will not accept outside patients, forcing patients to move between hospitals and his hotel in hopes of care.
Dr. Friedmann visited the Hospital for Deformities and Joint Diseases to treat 27 patients, mostly children, with tuberculosis of joints. A crowd of 25 to 200 waited in rain for a chance at last minute call, seizing the car as he departed while one woman clung to the running board seeking treatment.
Albany March 20. At midnight physicians expect former Governor Frank S Black to die at any time from valvular heart disease. He had been in a daze until this afternoon when he briefly recovered consciousness. He may live days or die at once. He recognized his wife and son Arthur Black a Boston attorney who stays at his bedside.
The Rt. Rev. Mgr. Denis O'Callahan of St. Augustine's South Boston died at 10 55 last night. Cardinal O'Connell will oversee funeral plans after 11 o'clock conference with St. Augustine curates. Father Gilbride Costello Lyons and Dr. Daley were at his bedside as crowds gathered at F Street.
He was universally loved and respected with friends across religions. Protestant clergy called him a pillar of strength for righteousness and his open hand welcomed all. In summer, men gathered in the arbor behind his house, sharing time and conversation.
All theatres and moving picture houses in the city will suspend performances today from noon to 3 pm at the request of Mayor Fitzgerald. The mayor sent a letter to managers yesterday asking for the closure and all venues agreed.
The mayor ordered all city buildings closed at 2 p m on Good Friday and urged merchants to show respect for the day. He said the country is becoming churchless and that the day is a time to reflect and vow to live better lives. His letter to amusement venues requests closing from 12 m to 3 p m on March 21 1918.
Mrs. Jennie May Eaton is jailed in Plymouth after a Boston area murder arrest. Authorities pursue a possible second suspect within 50 miles of Boston as alienists prepare to assess her mental state at a Friday hearing.
Gloucester March 20. After hours adrift in the open sea the fishing steamer Jeffreys ran ashore today narrowly missing rocks west of Baker's Island. No injuries reported, crew safe as salvage efforts begin.
Captain Berry Firth and five crew aboard a fishing steamer found the engine broken after nets were drawn. Two men built a raft from net boxes, reached shore, and alerted life savers who towed the disabled vessel 12 miles back to port through dense fog.

No choice yet for Japan. Frederick C. Penfield Seth Low and Joseph I. Willard are considered for senior posts. John R. Mott was offered China ministry but declined.
The Playboy of the Western World has been removed from the Irish Players repertoire in this city after a request from Mayor Fitzgerald. The ban was presented as a mild official objection, prompting the show's cancellation prior to next week's visit.
The Boston engagement of the Irish Players was canceled by Plymouth Theatre management after a request from the Mayor. The show drew Irish resentment in several cities for allegedly misrepresenting the Irish, sparking bitter comment and even violence in some places while defenders argued over its portrayal.
