Arsenic as a Tonic Novel Claims Made by Them
The Committee on Public Health continued hearings on regulating arsenic in domestic articles. Witnesses including Elijah Morse and paper maker Frederick Beck argued over penalties, feasibility, and the practical danger of arsenic in wallpapers and papers, with testimony suggesting reviews of non arsenical papers and challenges in testing. Several manufacturers defended their products, deeming the proposed law unnecessary, impractical, and a burdensome target for industry.
