The Boston Post reports an overwhelming New England vote on joining the League of Nations. Yes 428, No 138 in the regional poll, with nationwide tallies from New York Rochester Syracuse and others. The tally across six states shows strong support for entering the League to preserve peace.

Secretary of War Newton D Baker told a Commercial Club audience in San Francisco that the money cost of the war reached 197 billion dollars, 11 billion more than North America’s total property, with 7.3 million battle deaths and 9 million total army deaths. He warned that without a League of Nations, anarchy and despair would overwhelm the earth, and that future generations would pay a large share of the war debt.
In Roxbury last night a meeting of Irish friends at Boston Municipal Building ridiculed Sir Horace Plunkett as Ireland’s representative and cried foul at his arrival seen as a fallacy. The crowd overflowed the hall, spilling into corridors, forcing a second gathering in a nearby venue.
Former Mayor Curley addressed hundreds in the Municipal building gym. He deplored the treatment of a so called propagandist and England’s agents on New England shores, advocating strong measures and urging America’s interests over England’s. He recalled a 1915 proposal to invite Lord Balfour, signaling ongoing debate.
Lawrence, March 18. After a day of rioting and police clashes in the mill workers strike, 21 men and one woman were arrested. Mounted Officer William R. Carey was hospitalized with a fractured shoulder and Martin J. Dunn injured, with many strikers bearing broken heads and disfigured faces.
